MacTools Clinic
The RAMboot features of MacTools Clinic will not be available if you are using Maxima by Connectix.
If you have NowCompress or AutoDoubler installed, make sure the compression extension is active when you rebuild your Desktop.
If you experience problems when performing multiple RAMboots, try shutting down the Macintosh after each RAMboot.
If you are using any utilities that add menu items to the Finder and you rebuild your Desktop using MacTools Clinic, then restart your machine after you rebuild the Desktop.
If you choose Show Report and you have a large report file, it might take a while for MacTools Clinic to display the report. In the reporting options, configure Clinic to delete reports after a certain number of days to keep the file at a manageable size.
MacTools Clinic will not run if the startup disk is locked (for example, if you boot from a CD ROM).
If you have System 7.1.2 and QuickMail Server Sofware installed, and you perform a RAMboot, the second automatic restart might not finish. Selecting Restart from the Finder’s Special menu will complete the process. This problem does not happen under System 7.5.
INIT Conflicts
If you are using the Quad Control 2.2 control panel, make sure it loads before the MacTools Anti-Virus extension.
Emergency DiskFix
If you scan the emergency disk, the scan might indicate System file and Desktop file problems. This is not a problem and will have no effect on the use of the disk.
Some users have reported that after booting with the Emergency DiskFix Floppy, the PowerBook modem switches from the internal to external modem setting. If you are a PowerBook user, you might want to check your modem settings after using the emergency floppy disk.
If you boot from the emergency floppy disk, and recover files to another floppy disk, the operating system might prompt you to insert the emergency disk several times.
MacTools TrashBack
If you are using AutoCAD Version 12, and you access AutoCAD drawing files over a network, you will need to disable TrashBack protection.
You may experience problems using Norton FindFile 3.0 to locate a file in the TrashBack Deleted Items folder if you select the Go To It button. The System 7.5 FindFile program does not have this problem.
MacTools Optimizer
Optimizer calculates file fragmentation very precisely. Therefore, Optimizer might indicate a higher level of fragmentation than other disk defragmenters do.
If you use Optimizer to defragment your disk and then run Norton DiskDoctor Version 3, DiskDoctor might erroneously report catalog and extents damage on the disk. This is a known problem in DiskDoctor.
If you have removable media, such as a SyQuest drive, be sure to configure the driver so that it does not eject on unmount.
If you are on a Macintosh with only 8 Mb of ram and you encounter an Out of Memory error while analyzing or optimizing a volume from a RAMboot, try using the Optimizer startup disk, which uses less memory.
MacTools AutoCheck
If you are a network administrator using the Network Update feature of AutoCheck Collector, and there are Macintoshes and Power Macintoshes on the network, make sure you install the fat binary version of AutoCheck, since it is compatible both machine types.
If AutoCheck and AutoCheck Collector are running on the same machine, the AutoCheck on that machine should not send reports to the Collector on that machine.
MacTools Anti-Virus
MacTools Anti-Virus Version 4.0 does not use preferences files from Anti-Virus 3.0. You might need to reconfigure the options to have them set as they were in the previous version.
On page 220 of the manual, the second step 2 should be step 3.
